Social reinforcement is the most long lasting thing on which every thing build on. It is very important that everyone should be aware of their own reinforcement/preconception and adjust accordingly to their need. For me, realizing that my mom is fearful of me being hurt (i am not disregarding the fact, it is a normal thing), help me to barter with her to take on more ‘risky’ things.

Im a cyclist, this must be a 'mom' thing. I get the same.

Thank you for sharing this. What you described about your mother is a really mature way to handle it, understanding where her fear comes from rather than just pushing against it, and finding a way to negotiate rather than simply rebel or comply. That kind of awareness changes everything about how you move through the world.

I just love seeing you flourish!

I loved your comment about the 1st book >500 pages.

For a while, I would consider reading a book LESS than 750 pages, but preferably at least 1500 pages.

I'm serious about this when reading Memoirs of anybody I like to hear think.

Like Truman's Secretary of State Dean Acheson, PRESENT at the BEGINNING, several more, but NOT very many people can "let you hear them think!" George Schutz, under Reagan also.

> 25 years ago, arrived in a less noisy 3rd world country. After reading Les Misérables and several others, I had to reconsider.

Paul Woodruff's LIVING TOWARD VIRTUE a Socratic approach, is opposite in length and so valuable because, in kindie version, at least, it's < 200 pages before bibliography, in which he writes what he considers his crowning achievement of 70 years as a philosopher. Father gave him Marcus Aurelius' Meditations when he was 14.

Wordsmith, golden pen.

I always feel better reading about your emotions associated with your running. (78, arthritic, I can't emulate you).

I loved working with USAF flyers as a Flight Surgeon 50 years ago. Smart, pursuing excellence in their flying duties. I loved attending their intramural sporting events with wives and children.

David, thank you for this.

That's an incredible reading habit, 1500 pages as your preference is on another level entirely. I love the idea of letting someone "think out loud" through a memoir, that's a beautiful way to put it. Les Misérables changing how you measured a book's worth makes complete sense.

And thank you for sharing about your time as a Flight Surgeon. That sounds like a remarkable chapter, working alongside people pursuing excellence and being part of their lives beyond just duty.

I really appreciate you reading about my running even though you can't emulate it right now. The fact that it still resonates means a lot. Wishing you well, and thank you for being here.
